As Senior Editor, I built a list of literary fiction defined by innovative writing combined with commercial potential. I published a broad range of novels to literary and commercial success. I also commissioned and published several of our key historical fiction authors. I am a hands-on editor taking great care of each author and am passionate about being there throughout the career of an author.

Highlights of my time as Senior Editor include:
➢ Spearheading a brand team which ran an innovative cover competition in conjunction with the Saatchi Gallery designed to launch a debut literary author in the UK
➢ Heading up an in-house historical fiction taskforce focussing on HarperCollins’ three-year strategy for the list
➢ Publishing one of HarperCollins’ eleven Sainsbury’s Book Club picks in 2009 to great commercial success
➢ Project-editing The Dangerous Book for Boys and The Daring Books for Girls series and ghost-writing a third of The Daring Book for Girls.

Working across literary fiction and historical fiction, I worked with a variety of authors including Tracy Chevalier, Lionel Shriver, Jennifer Donnelly, Boris Johnson, Bernard Cornwell and Conn Iggulden’s The Dangerous Book for Boys series. I also started commissioning and from there was promoted to Senior Editor.

I worked on all aspects of publication including:
➢ Structural editing, copy editing and proof reading and liaising with authors on all elements of the text
➢ High levels of author and agent care
➢ Generating strategic ideas on how we should publish new acquisitions in terms of the market and competition and reading all submissions
➢ Guiding each book towards publication, and beyond, liaising with Art, Design, Production, Contracts, Sales, Marketing, Publicity and Rights
➢ Writing cover copy and selling copy, creating titles and shoutlines
➢ Briefing covers
